Celebrating National Learning and Development Month
At EdTech Hub, we continue to explore avenues where learners, decision-makers, and policymakers can benefit from the evidence we generate. We aim to offer a diverse set of resources that can enhance the everyday, real-life experiences of our readers. Through evidence, workshops, tools, and more, we encourage you to try something new, to continue learning and to develop your knowledge in education technology. During National Learning and Development Month this October, we’re reminded of the vital role education plays throughout our lives. It’s important to recognise that education isn’t limited to children. Knowledge is timeless, and continuous learning is essential for human advancement. We will focus on sharing and promoting the work we are involved in within the field of EdTech, highlighting experiences and insights from our global work. Above all, our emphasis will be on showcasing initiatives that foster skills development and learning, for you, our dear community.

We are pleased to share experiences and lessons from the activities carried out as part of the Government of Tanzania’s efforts to operationalise its National Framework for Teacher Continuous Professional Development (TCPD), which shifts TCPD from discreet workshops to cost-effective, ongoing, school-based professional development programmes. Our collaborative work with Tanzanian government education bodies, including Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE), Ministry of Education, Science and Technology(MOEST), and the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) in Tanzania has highlighted critical lessons regarding Teacher Continuous Professional Development. Here we present nine lessons that provide valuable insights that can inform the design and implementation of TCPD programmes not only in Tanzania but also in other educational contexts.
Our work involved the provision of technical assistance (TA) through an adaptive TA delivery model and sandbox approach. It highlights valuable insights into the design and implementation of a technology-enhanced, school-based, national teacher continuous professional development system.
The combination of EdTech Hub’s technical assistance, sandbox sprints, and iterative user studies, carried out through close partnerships with Tanzania government institutions and wider stakeholders, provided a resilient, robust, and collaborative space. These lessons could be identified and acted upon in order to continue strengthening the TCPD system throughout the process.
EdTech Hub has joined forces with UNICEF Cambodia to provide crucial support to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports’ Department of Policy (DoPo) in crafting a pioneering digital education strategy aimed at implementation within Cambodia’s school system.
The collaboration has been marked by a series of comprehensive workshops that engaged a diverse array of stakeholders, as EdTech Hub worked in close coordination with on-the-ground partners. Led by DoPo, with technical expertise from EdTech Hub, the workshops were centred around the application of global evidence and principles for successful and sustainable digital education strategies.
The journey commenced in October 2022, with a kick-off workshop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital city. At this event, the strategy concept was introduced, and invaluable feedback and insights were collected from a wide spectrum of participants, including teachers, school leaders, policymakers, private sector representatives, and various development partners. The input received from this workshop guided the decision to create an action-oriented strategy, to be executed at the school level. Subsequently, close collaboration with DoPo led to the formulation of an initial draft of the strategy. Read more...
