EdTech Hub and Fundación Ceibal have launched a new partnership to help education systems across Latin America and the Caribbean respond to the opportunities and challenges brought by artificial intelligence (AI).
Bringing global evidence to a regional context
EdTech Hub’s AI Observatory & Action Lab maps how AI is transforming education in low- and middle-income countries and serves as a global reference point for researchers and decision-makers working in this field. The new partnership will bring that methodology and evidence base to Latin America and the Caribbean, combining it with Ceibal’s pre-existing AI areas of work, deep regional expertise in digital transformation and innovative educational research, and convening power. Ceibal supports educational digital transformation initiatives abroad and promotes research in educational innovation.
This includes drawing on Fundación Ceibal’s Regional Diagnostic on Digital Education Transformation, which covers 27 countries and identifies AI governance as one of the most pressing gaps facing education systems today. This exciting new partnership will build on and deepen existing collaborations with International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the GPE KIX Regional Hub, and other regional partners, ensuring that this initiative contributes to a broader and well-connected regional ecosystem. Together, EdTech Hub and Fundación Ceibal will work to close that gap, helping governments and education leaders across the region make informed, evidence-based decisions about AI in education.

Looking ahead
Over the coming months, EdTech Hub and Fundación Ceibal will work together to adapt the AI Observatory’s methodology for the region, building on the findings of the Regional Diagnostic and identifying practical next steps for governments seeking to strengthen their approach to AI governance in education.
